This headline has become an indicator of just how low mortgage rates have gone. Your humble blogger has been in this business for more than 33 years, and these are the lowest rates I've ever had the pleasure to offer.

We are consistently qualifying people for fixed rate loans on site-built homes below 5% for the first time in our history. Our company turned 25 years old this month, and these rates are a nice anniversary present that we would like to share with you.

If your plan is to hold onto your home for the next few years, you absolutely should look into refinancing at these rates. "Once in a lifetime" is an overused cliché, but it might actually be true in this case!

First-time home buyer? Need to move up to a bigger place? If you have a job and a few bucks to put down, you better be shopping for a house right now. We have never seen the combination of low prices and low rates that we are seeing right now. Don't be afraid to look into the possibility of a new home, it's hard to imagine a better time.  JL
